Geftinat belongs to a group of anti-cancer medications known as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Gefitinib Tablet is a drug that is indicated to treat several types of lung cancer. It works by preventing lung cancer cells from growing and multiplying. It is a cancer chemotherapy agent. Geftinat helps by blocking a certain protein (an enzyme known as tyrosine kinase). It is also used for treating non-small cell lung cancer in people who have previously been treated with some other chemotherapy medications and have not improved or whose condition has worsened.
Gefitinib inhibits the intracellular phosphorylation of numerous tyrosine kinases associated with transmembrane cell surface receptors, along with the tyrosine kinases related with the epidermal growth factor receptor. EGFR is expressed on the cell surface of many normal cells and cancer cells.
